An interview with Junie, a Plan A bride.

Could I have met a sweeter, more precious couple than Junie and Rupert? I think not.

Absolutely smitten with each other, it was impossible not to feel it in the air on the day. Such a multicultural wedding with guests from all corners of the world flying in for it.

Junie’s vision was so romantic, even I got swept away with it.

It has definitely gone down as one of my most memorable weddings of 2019.

First of all, how did you guys meet?

We met working together at a restaurant - I was a cocktail waitress and Rupert was a chef. Rupert often tried to get my attention by bribing me with food, which totally worked! When we first started dating, I remember drunk dialling Rupert while at a bar with friends, and complaining about how cold it was in the venue. I didn’t think much of it, but when Rupert showed up to the bar with a jacket and 2 scarves to keep me warm, I nearly lost the plot. I don’t think my heart could have exploded anymore in that moment, as it was truly such a thoughtful and Rupert thing to do! I knew he was a keeper after that night and the rest is history!

How did he propose?

Rupert planned a surprise trip to New Zealand! He took me on a helicopter ride to a snow top glacier in Queenstown and popped the question amongst the most magical view I have ever seen. I was absolutely shocked and nearly caused an avalanche with my reaction.

What made you decide on Bali?

I had traveled to Bali several times prior to meeting Rupert, and always had a soft spot for the beautiful island. Given that we had guests coming from Korea, USA, Europe, and Australia, we also wanted to choose a location that was central for everyone to travel to.

Do you think having a planner helped? If so, why?

Absolutely! We got in touch with Tash quite early on in the planning stages, and never thought having a destination wedding could be so manageable. We were also connected with some of the most talented videographers and catering teams that we would not have discovered on our own. Definitely would not have been able to pull off such a gorgeous day without the Plan A team.

What was the most stressful part of planning your destination wedding? (future brides take note!)

Definitely trying to please all our friends and family and managing different expectations. We got so caught up trying to please our friends expectations as they traveled from all over the world, that we rarely had time to ourselves the week leading up to the wedding. Especially on my end, I had many friends travel to Bali that I hadn’t seen in 5 + years, with all of them expecting 1:1 alone time. I remember on the day of my bachelorette party, everyone was suppose to arrive at 11am, however all the girls showed up at 9:00am hoping to get coffee just ‘me and them alone’ before the rest of the group came. With everyone showing up 2 hours early having the same goal, the party ended up getting started while I was still in my pyjamas. Definitely do not be afraid to set friendly limits and remember that the day is still about you – try not to get caught up in meeting all the guest expectations as it will drive you mad!

What was your happiest moment?

Rupert and I made an effort to pre-schedule a time for us to sneak away and have 30 min just to ourselves. This was in between the photos finishing, and just before being reintroduced for the dinner reception. We snuck back to our villa room, had a bottle of champagne, (and 2 tequila shots) waiting for us. We were able to just be with each other and soak in the moment, which was truly the best decision we made. It was also fun to peak out the window to see all our guests and appreciate the day we created from a distance. It was truly a special and unforgettable moment.

If you could change anything would you? If so what and why?

I don’t think so! Although there were some stressful times, it was such a great learning opportunity and ultimately brought me and my husband closer. I love him more than ever!

What was your experience like working with Plan A?

The entire team is absolutely gorgeous! Everyone made a huge effort to ensure the details were perfectly set as I envisioned from the shape of the table vases to the twine around the bouquet. We felt extremely looked after. From the first point of contact to the day of, Tash also went above and beyond her role - being our wedding planner, best friend, mum, human valium and biggest support the entire time. Tash will forever be my favourite decision I made.

Any recommendations or tips for future brides?

As part of the itinerary for the day, ensure you schedule in some time to sneak off with your partner and have a few minutes alone! The day passes so quickly, and it is easy to get caught up with all your friends and family, but it’s quite a special experience to be able to sneak away and cherish some time just you and your husband/wife alone. It also allows you to take a moment to appreciate the special day you have put so much time and energy planning!
