An interview with Leilani, a Plan A bride.

In September of 2019, Leilani and Kent tied the knot at one of our all time favourite venues, Villa Semarapura.

I love this venue...its big, spacious, and the perfect canvas to create something totally unique and different every single time. You can work it for small or large events, and for Leilani and Kent's wedding, it was perfect.

When Leilani told me the look she was after, I fell hook line and sinker. Dark greens, wood, maroon and navy tones. I loved it. And to top it off, she wanted this more austere palate offset against a more casual setting...that being a cocktail setting. I was inspired, and got straight to it.

What eventuated was a night of magic and romance.

First of all, how did you guys meet?

Kent and I met at our favourite night club in the city. It’s a different version from the two of us so I will tell mine. He was staring at me from across the dance floor. I locked eyes with him and noticed how big his eyes were, so big that I grabbed my friend and told her to check out the guy who wouldn’t look away.

He walked up to me and put his phone in my face and asked me if the picture on his phone was me. He had in fact followed me on Instagram months before meeting (this was a time when Instagram was not what it is now). Some would say he stalked me but I would say it was fate and that we both ended up at the right place at the right time.

How did he propose?

It was his birthday and had organised to stay the night in the city. He wanted to check out this bar/day club before check in. He threw me off by making sure I had my license on me.

We never ended up at this bar/day club. He took me to Blues Point under the harbor bridge. He had a picnic organised for the two of us and this was where he proposed.

What made you decide on Bali?

Kent and I had a long discussion about a destination wedding. We decided on Bali after I had suggested the idea. He had never been before and he put all his faith in me. We had family travelling from South Africa and we decided together that we wanted to be able to spend our time with our guests prior and post wedding. Bali was the perfect fit as it was a short distance from Australia and the same distance for our South African relatives as it would be if they were to travel to Australia. Best decision we made.

Do you think having a planner helped? If so, why?

Absolutely! I could not have done it without Plan A.

Having a planner means you save time. You actually have the time to enjoy the planning process. They help you stick to your budget, and at times save more than you were expecting. They handled majority of things and do their best to stick to your vision and make sure the whole day goes smoothly. They know their stuff and you need to put your faith in their knowledge.

What was the most stressful part of planning your destination wedding? (Future brides take note!)

I was most stressed about our guests arriving safely to the destination and arriving on time for the wedding day. You don’t have control over airlines, traffic, accommodation etc. and this for me was hard. Being prepared and speaking with Plan A about traffic, travel time, accommodation etc. in Bali we were able to organise appropriate accommodation for guests and cars to ensure they arrived on time.

What was your happiest moment?

Kent and I always talk about our entrance back into the party as a married couple. In that moment, hearing our loved ones dearest to us, cheering us on we knew right then that we did that! We bought everyone here together, family, friends. Our whole day and night exceeded our expectations!

If you could change anything would you? If so what and why?

I wouldn’t have changed a thing. That’s my honest truth. Everything was perfect!!!

From the venue, to the decorations. Still to this day we have been told that no one had ever been to a wedding like ours. It wasn’t your typical sit down wedding and the vibe we wanted was more of your “backyard BBQ”. Everyone drinking, eating and getting to know one another. This was exactly how it was. Music was perfect. The food was sensational. Drinks delicious.

What was your experience like working with Plan A?

From beginning to end, Plan A was enthusiastic and dedicated to making our wedding first-class. Communication was always a pleasure and nothing was ever too much trouble. This day couldn’t have happened without their hard work.

Any recommendations or tips for future brides?

Based off if you were to have a similar relaxed vibe like us, I would say - make sure you take the time to grab a plate of food and EAT IT. Sit down with your loved ones, and enjoy because it was some of the best food I’ve had.

Also, don’t forget to eat your wedding cake!!! Both Kent and I missed out on trying ours and we were told it was heavenly.

Ask Plan A to keep some aside or even put a piece in your room for later ;)
