An interview with Natalie, a Plan A bride.

Adam and Natalie...I have such fun memories with this couple.

Easily one of my favourite elopements, on the stunning island of Nusa Lembongan, just a thirty minute boat right from mainland Bali.

They had toyed with the idea of having friends to their wedding, but in the end it was family first. I'm glad this is how they ended up going, because I honestly couldn't imagine it being any better.

Such a beautiful love story followed by an incredibly intimate and special ceremony, against the backdrop of crystal blue waters.

Surrounded by their immediate family, even I felt like I was one of the clan, and as a result, felt incredibly privileged to be a part of their special day. I still think back to this day years later.

I'm still in regular contact with these two...and looking forward to our next drinks together!

First of all, how did you guys meet?

We met in primary school as Adam was in my brother’s year, but he moved to QLD and I did not see him for about 12 years until one day I was visiting my friend Jess at her parent’s house and there is Adam, sitting in the garage with Jess’ brother Mark. Adam recognized me straight away, but it took me a few minutes to work out who he was. We have basically been inseparable ever since then.

How did he propose?

It was our six year anniversary, he surprised me with a hotel in the city for the weekend and on the Saturday he planned to take me for a walk in the botanical gardens with a view of the Harbour bridge as we loved that spot but it started to rain. He had to change his plans last minute and took me to the Chinese gardens and proposed on the top of the waterfall. We had just bought a house, so I thought we were years away from getting engaged, it was perfect as I had absolutely no idea.

What made you decide on Bali?

I have been travelling to Bali since I was 2 years old so it has always been a favourite holiday destination with my family. Adam had never been overseas when we got together so I made sure we went there for our first overseas holiday back in 2010. We usually go back every 2 years and when we got engaged we knew we wanted to elope and get married in Bali as it was like a second home to us.

Do you think having a planner helped? If so, why?

Absolutely! It helps you in every way possible – less stress, professional and genuine advice, staying within your budget, fresh ideas and helps you with decision making (something I struggled with as I couldn’t ask my friends for advice as we were secretly eloping), no language barriers with vendors as your planner takes care of everything and just knowing that you are not responsible for anything going wrong and that you are in safe hands was a reassuring feeling.

What was the most stressful part of planning your destination wedding? (future brides take note!)

I honestly cannot think of one stressful thing while planning my wedding. Yes, I had a small wedding as we eloped with just our immediate family but without Plan A literally taking care of everything for me, I still would have found a lot of things to worry about.

What was your happiest moment?

Arriving at our wedding villa and seeing the macramé that Tash arranged to be made for us. She made our wedding arch look exactly how we pictured it, such a good price and we got to take it home with us as a keepsake. Oh and marrying Adam.

If you could change anything would you? If so what and why?

I would have chosen a catering company rather than the villa staff to organize our food and wedding cake. As it was a small wedding of 8 people on Nusa Lembongan we thought it would be cheaper and easier to do it this way but I think it was too much for the villa staff to take on. If you are planning on getting married in Nusa Lembongan you will need to consider that the vendors will need to stay the night (you need to pay their accommodation for all staff) as the last boat back to Sanur leaves around 4-5pm.

What was your experience like working with Plan A?

Easy! Tash was recommended to me through a mutual friend who had just got married and used Plan A as their wedding planner, so I knew I was in safe hands. By looking at all the other weddings they had planned I could see how capable the team were into making your wedding dreams come to life.

Plan A was better than I could have imagined, everything ran smoothly, and I gained friends along the way.

Any recommendations or tips for future brides?

Enjoy every moment of the lead up and the day itself as it all goes so quickly, and it truly is the best day of your life.

Make sure you have a special moment with your husband to take it all in. Don't worry about everyone else, they're having a great time and are so happy to be there with you.

I think it is important to visit Bali prior to the wedding to trial caterers, make-up, hair, check the wedding venue, meet your photographer and Priest etc for peace of mind which is made easy when Plan A set up all your meetings for you and accompany you.
