An interview with Sarah, a Plan A Bride

Sarah and Gareth married in Bali in May 2019.

They chose Bloomfields in Umalas to provide the breathtaking scenery of traditional rice paddies, a cotton candy sunset, and a minimalist boho vibe to their special day.

With an all white theme for the set up, the drinks were pouring, the guests were laughing, and most importantly, the couple were blissfully happy.

Working with Sarah was an absolute pleasure.

She knew exactly what she wanted, how she wanted it and set us to work. I love working with brides who have a clear sense of what speaks to them. It helps me create a mood board and a vision to execute as close as possible to what my clients want without actually being inside their head!

Having Sarah and Gareth come to Bali before the wedding for meetings and site visits was a bonus too, because it afforded us time to brainstorm and for me to provide them with all their options.

Sarah and I have remained friends to this day.

One of the best things about my job is the close contact I am able to keep with my clients. Its definitely unique, and something I'm very grateful for.

First of all, how did you guys meet?

We met on camping trip with friends of ours – he was invited by the husband and I was invited by the wife and the rest was history. Although they still maintain they did not do it on purpose 😂

How did he propose?

The proposal was something out of the movies – he knew my love for elephants so arranged to take me to the zoo, where the elephants there do paintings. Little did I know that he had organised for the elephant to spray paint over a stencil and under that stencil said ‘Sarah will you marry me’ so in front of a massive crowd (it was Mother's day of all days) the zoo keeper said that this painting was a little different and pulled the stencil off and there it was my proposal and I turned to see him on one knee with the most gorgeous Tiffany and Co Ring and that was it. He then took me to Kings park where we had champagne and then back to his parents' house where he had arranged for all of our closest family and friends to be there and we had a massive proposal party.

What made you decide on Bali?

Bali is our most favourite place and we have had some very fun times and some special times too over there, so it just seemed fitting for us to get married in our favourite place. And who doesn’t love a Bali wedding – but seriously though, we wanted it to be a holiday for everyone, a time where everyone could come together and spend time together and then the wedding could just be a massive party – which it definitely was!

Do you think having a planner helped? And why?

Most definitely!! I am a control freak and getting married in another country, where I could not control anything is literally something of a nightmare for me – however Tash made me feel so unbelievably conformable and I had every confidence in her that she knew my vision and only wanted the absolute best for me on our big day. Having a planner that has such an amazing reputation like Tash just meant that I knew we were going to be getting the best of the best and nothing was going to be spared. She made sure I was involved every step of the way and made sure I knew what I needed to do and arranged it all for me - I just needed to show up.

What was the most stressful part of planning your destination wedding? (future brides take note!)

To be honest it was not knowing if people were going to come – with it being a destination wedding there is always the underlying anxiety over who will be able to come and who wont and obviously with everything being per head it made it a little stressful not knowing numbers right up until the last moment.

Also, accommodation was a bit of a bug bare too. We had groups that wanted to stay together and then others that arranged their own accommodation so when it came time for the hens and bucks and pre dinners, although not a huge issue it was hard having to plan where everyone was going to be coming from etc especially with Bali traffic.

What was your happiest moment?

Saying I do, in front of all our family and friends in our favourite place. Just standing at the alter and looking around and seeing everyone and then the landscape too was just a dream.

If you could change anything would you? If so what and why?

There are a couple of personal things I would change but nothing about the day itself – the day itself was an absolute dream.

What was your experience like working with Plan A?

AMAZING!! From the start to finish and everything in between it was amazing. Al the girls at Plan A are incredible and only want the very best for the bride and groom and guests and will do everything they can to make it a perfect day!

Any recommendations or tips for future brides?

Just enjoy it! Relax and take it all in.
